Since solar energy production does not ensure uniform production throughout the year – in the summer months the daytime production can be several times higher than in the winter – the solar panel systems definitely feed a smaller or larger proportion of the electricity produced back into the national energy grid, unless it is an island-based solar system. How settlement in balance works:This  kilowatt-based billing system ensures that excess production over household consumption flows into the public network. This consumption is measured on the electricity meter – this is usually typical for daytime hours. Then in the evening and at night, when the solar panels are not producing, the household’s needs are met by the public network, which is also measured and indicated on the electricity bill. By summing up the two, calculated on an annual basis, the balance settlement totals the amount of electricity fed into the network and taken from it, and the difference between them remains the electricity bill. In other words, if the customer fed more into the system than he took out, he is entitled to receive the difference. Gross settlement: This is a Hungarian Forint based settlement, in which both the electricity taken from the network and the electricity fed into the network are first converted into HUF. The main difference is that the price of the supplied electricity is determined by the competent authority, which price is fluctuating and will most likely be lower than the price of the electricity taken from the network. The latter is the reason why obtaining a membership in an energy community has serious advantages. There the surplus energy is first sold among the members and only after it is fed back and sold through the public network. Attention: From January 2024, in the case of the 100 percent residential tender, only gross settlement will apply.
